Event Synopsis

Following on from their previous music industry activity in Nelson and Blackburn, Lancashire County Council’s Creative Lancashire Team presents a series of workshops, surgeries and networking with current leading music industry practitioners. The day concludes with a key note discussion and Q&A session featuring Dave Haslam (Author & DJ), Mr Scruff (Ninja Tune), Jayne Compton (Switchflicker), Andy Votel (Twisted Nerve/Finders Keepers), Dave Pichilingi (Liverpool Sound City) and Liam Walsh (Ask me PR).

The event is aimed at those already working or aspiring to work in the music industry and will address some of the current issues for industry professionals including:

  • The New Management model – Artist/Label/Manager
  • Developing and exploit multiple revenue streams
  • Social Media in the music industry
  • Graphic Design & Illustration in music
  • Music Synchronization & Licensing, Composition & Publishing
  • Music’s role in creating vibrant cities and as a catalyst for change

Music, Regeneration & Place Making: Preston Context

At this time Preston is a City with grand economic and cultural aspirations but since gaining City status, Preston has failed to fulfil its potential and ‘punch its weight’ when compared to cities in other parts of the region. Some influential decision makers are exploring the capacity for regeneration and place making through developing public realm arts projects, and the cultural/creative offer, including music, as a catalyst for change.

The panel for the afternoon workshops will include Jode Steele & David Wainwright (Verbal Vigilante), Rachel Wood (Woodwork Music Limited), and will be facilitated by Pete Jenkinson (Music is Ours/Record Label Services), and Bruce Thomas (Modern English).

Throughout the day there will be a limited number of surgeries available with our music industry mentor and other current leading industry practitioners - to apply for a surgery and a place on the Social Media Workshop please download this document: Surgeries and Social Media Workshop application form

The Workshops will be followed by the Music - Industry Session. Tables with advisors drawn from across the industry will be positioned around the room. Delegates will be able to move from table to table to access the support they need from our music mentors, Vision+Media, Business Link, UKTI, The Musicians Union, PRS and others.

The final panel discussion and Q&A will feature Dave Pichilingi (Liverpool Sound City), Andy Votel (Finders Keepers, Twisted Nerve, Graphic Designer & Lecturer), Andrew Carthy (Mr Scruff, Ninja Tune Records), Jayne Compton (Switchflicker Records), Karen Boardman (Crisis Management & Sound Investment), and Liam Walsh (Ask me PR), and. The debate will be chaired by Dave Haslam (writer, journalist, lecturer and legendary Hacienda DJ).
